Names in brown were eighth graders, the others were in seventh grade.
I named them as they signed the back. The only names missing were mine and Mary Ann Buell who I think had moved by the time we got the pictures. Time and careless handling have nearly erased Patsy DeSplinter’s name in the lower left corner. Gene Wright’s in the upper left is only a little better.
I don’t think any of us ever called Mr. Cain D. E. though we probably called him Dave when he wasn’t close enough to hear. We rarely if ever called Jim Nelson Carl nor did we ever call Mary Peter anything but Mary Kay. That was pretty much a necessity, what with Mary Kay, Mary Jane, Mary Ann and Maryalis making up four of the six girls in the eighth grade. Dollie’s real name was Alfrieda (not sure of the spelling).
Six of those eighth graders went on to graduate from Tampico High School in 1955, joined by four others, Mary Ann Hansen, Larry Rajnowski, Alberta Wolber and Jane Hasselman. I can’t speak for later years, but at the time I’m pretty sure that it was the smallest graduating class in Tampico history.
I do know that Stanley died a good many years ago in an elevator accident and I knew that Carol Jean died not long after I moved to Arkansas.
I hope this picture entertains.
