Gossip Column

The large cannon that has been near the gate in the cemetery waas moved last week Saturday to the park where the soldiers monument stands and it is now in quite an appropriate place. The big gun weighs 400 pounds (transcriber’s note: this print is very blurred and partially cut off. It appears to read as “400” lbs.) and required some strenuous work on the part of E. E. WHEELOCK and team, and Fred SMITH, Will ROW, T. O. STEADMAN, R. B. WINANS and others. While moving it the *rench to the wagon broke and let the cannon down on the tongue which required some hard work to get things right. This cannon was "scrapped" for metal during the war. It was replaced with a 105mm Howitzer on May 31, 1994
