James Henry Hogeboom
Submitted by Les Niemi.
James Henry HOGEBOOM was the son of John N. and Anna W. HOGEBOOM. James was the "apple of his father's eye" until the fateful day of Sunday October 9, 1894 when, at age 19, he was switching a box car at the Denrock station (site of the Denrock Hotel and Lunch Counter run by his parents) and his foot slipped on the ladder causing him to slip off, under the rolling car. His lifeless mangled body was found sometime later and he was carried home. He was attending school in Prophetstown and many of his friends came to the funeral. James' body was interred in the Tampico cemetery.
