HOMER H. BURNS TAKEN BY DEATH

Homer H. Burns, 82 of Rock Falls, passed away Sunday morning at the Linton nursing home in Sterling. He had been in ill health for some time.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Wheelock-Allen funeral home in Rock Falls with Rev. Ivan Obenshain, pastor of the Rock Falls Methodist church, officiating.

Burial was in the Tampico Memorial cemetery.

Homer Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Burns, was born Oct. 22, 1877 in Bureau County, near New Bedford.

He was united in marriage to Mabel C. Emmons on Feb. 15, 1899 at Tampico and they farmed in this vicinity until nine years ago when they retired and moved to Rock Falls.

He was a member of the Pomona Grange and charter member of the Tampico Grange.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. George (Gladys) Thompson of Nachusa; one sister, Mrs. Jospeh (Susan) Turner of Rock Falls; two grandchildren, Harry Thompson of Tampico and Mrs. John (Arleen) Garland of Harmon; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Oct. 7. 1954; one sister and several brothers.

INFO SUBMITTED BY DIANE BARENEK: Homer'sbrothers and sisters are:  Otto (Otterbin/Ottobien?), Rueben, James,
Susan and Mae.  From what I can trace Great-Grandpa Adam came from
Pennsylvania and Great-grandma Alice came from New York. That is where I
hit a wall.

Otto (March 2, 1875-October 25, 1943) married Lula Vesta Griffin
(October 5, 1887-January 1, 1985) on July 7, 1906 in Morrison, IL.  Otto
and Lula are buried in Manchester, Iowa were they farmed most of their
lives.  They had Vernon, Howard, Mae, Merle, Donald, Marwan, and Alice.
I am the daughter of Alice.  Alice and Marwan are the only surviving
children.
