Denver Dale Cole, age 81, of 216 South Benton Street, Tampico, Illinois, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
Denver was born on September 28, 1928 in Bingham, Illinois, the son of Thomas Elbert and Angie (Halford) Cole. He was united in marriage to Joyce Wigant on September 13, 1953 in Hillsdale Methodist Church in Hillsdale, Illinois. He was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire Company in Sterling, Illinois as a recorder, for 23 years retiring in 1991. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Tampico, Prophetstown Masonic Lodge #293 AF & AM, the Quad City Emmaus, and former member of the Tampico American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed mission trips.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Cole of Tamp;ico, Illinois; Beth (John Leroy) Kinney of Port Byron, Illinois, and Nancy (Larry) Cook of Prophetstown, Illinois; two sons, Thomas Cole of Sterling, Illinois and Gregory (Kim) Cole of Tampico, Illinois; 16 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren, one brother, William (June) Cole of Hillsdale, Illinois; two sisters, Mary Lou (Roy) Haney of Tampico, Illinois and Lois (Bob) Laudie of Independence, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, and one brother.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Tampico with the Rev. Monty Fox, pastor officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Tampico with Masonic services at 11 a.m., with funeral services to follow. Cremation rites will be accorded following services.
A memorial has been established in his memory to the United Methodist Church and the Prophetstown Masonic Lodge #293 AF & AM.
