NELS PETER HANSEN
Aged Man Dies from Attack of a Bull
Nels Peter Hansen, 80, died suddenly at the home of J. E. Hurd, Stone's Station, Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. assertedly as the indirect result of an attack made by a vicious bull Sept. 25, while he was working at the Hurd home. Deputy Coroner Wallace of Lee County swore in the jury following the accident and the inquest will be held at the city hall in Dixon Thursday at 10 a.m.
The body was removed to the Wheelock undertaking parlors, where arrangements will be made for the funeral.
Nels Peter Hansen was born in Denmark 80 years ago, Nov. 8. He came to this country during young manhood and for the past 19 years has made his home with his niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hurd of Stone's Station.
Besides Mrs. Hurd, he is survived by a brother in Texas and one brother in Denmark.
Hospitalized Three Weeks
On September 25, 1947 while working around the barn yard, he was attacked by a bull and badly battered. He was taken to the Home Hospital, where he remained three weeks, after which he was returned home. The courage of a dog which came to his rescue is believed to have saved his life at that time. The dog attacked the bull and kept its attention until Mr. Hansen could be dragged to safety.
He was believed to be considerably improved and was able to sit up Tuesday. Wednesday morning he appeared to feel better and Mrs. Hurd was preparing his breakfast when he suddenly expired. The attending physician believes that death was caused by apastic pneumonia brought about by shock from the attack of the bull.
