John Markle Is Dead - Aged Settler of Yorktown Passes Away Last Week at his Farm Home

John Markle, an aged resident and a pioneer of Yorktown vicinity died last week Friday morning about 3:30 o'clock at his home west of Yorktown.  He was as well as usual and about his usual work until the Monday evening preceding his death, when he was overcome with dizziness which confined him to his bed where he was a great sufferer until a short time before the end came which was as a calm and peaceful sleep.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Yorktown Christian Church, Rev. Zerby, pastor of the Tampico Christian church officiating.  Interment was in Fairfield Cemetery.

John Markle was born February 22, 1830 at Olive, Ulster county, New York, where he grew to manhood.  He was married to Catherine Winchell in 1855, she preceded him to the grave some twenty-one years.  To this union was born eight children, five daughters and three sons, four of the children died in infancy.

The subject of this sketch with his wife moved to Yorktown, in the spring of 1857 and endured all the hardships of a pioneer life.  The greater part of his life was spent where he resided at the time of his death.

There are left to mourn his loss, two sons; Charles and Edwin and two daughters; Minnie and Mrs. Leonard Hopkins, also seven grand children, besides numerous other relatives and friends.  The children were all present during his and at the time of his death.

Death had no terrors for him as his faith was to Christ His Savior.  He often spoke of death as a welcomed visitor. The relatives have the sincere sympathy of everybody in their loss.
