CLAUDE  BURGESS

Claude M Burgess, 67, of 28020 W. _____ Rd., Rock Falls, died Monday morning in Community General Hospital in Sterling.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral home in Rock Falls with Rev. Carl Zager, pastor of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery in Tampico with military rites conducted by the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established in his memory.

Mr. Burgess was born Aug. 24, 1919 in Arrowsmith, the son of Phillip E. and Lulu C. Burroughs Burgess.  On April 15, 1939 he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Mayberry in Clinton, Ia.  He had farmed most of his lifetime in the Tampico and Rock Falls area, until his retirement ten years ago. The deceased was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church, the Sterling VFW 326; the ____ Whiteside Voiture, the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902, and the Sterling Moose Lodge 267.  Mr. Burgess was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Pat) Dickinson of Waterloo, Ia., and Mrs. Reiley (Mary) Smith of Erie; six grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Burgess of Dixon and Lyle Burgess of Skokie; also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
