Bernard Droste, 64, Of Rock Falls, Dies

Bernard Droste, 64-year-old Rock Falls man, died in his home at 1008 11th Ave., following a lingering illness.  He had been ill for several months after a serious operation last year.  He was born Oct. 9, 1892, in Clinton, Ia., the son of Bernard and Louise Droste.  He was married Jan. 19, 1921 in Tampico to Catherine Wirth and they farmed in the community until 1955 when they moved to Rock Falls.

Droste was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and a member of Sterling Post 326, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Mrs. J. J. (Amelia) Schauff, Flint, Mich.; and Mrs. William (Rosemary) Newell, Sterling; four sons, John Droste, Rt. 2, Rock Falls, Tony Droste, Rt. 2, Rock Falls, Leo Droste, Las Anamas, Colo., and Brother James Droste, Kirkwood, Mo.; two brothers, Herman of Williams, Ia., and Louis, Clinton, in addition to eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Droste, Clinton, and William Droste, Sterling; and five sisters, Mrs. Herman (Frances) Holdgrafer, Mrs. Henry (Mary) Holdgrafer, Mrs. Clem (Louise) Holdgrafer, and Mrs. Matt (Carrie) Determan, and Mrs. George (Amelia) Roling, Clinton.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Meyer Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited Sunday at 8 p.m. by the Holy Name Society.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. with requiem mass in St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. Burrell Bedoes, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the Tampico Cemetery.
