Mary McNay, 94, of Creston died March 17, 2012, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.
Memorial services will be at a later date in Henryville, Ind. Burial will be in Henryville Cemetery. There will be no public visitation scheduled at this time. Powers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are to be determined. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
Mary Elizabeth McNay, daughter of Maude S. (Abney) and Robert Francis McNay, was born May 7, 1917, in Brazil, Ind.
She was raised in Jackson County, Ind., and graduated from Tampico High School in Tampico, Ind. She continued her education and earned a degree in statistics from the University of Indiana.
In 1939, she married Hugh Bryan in Tampico, Ind. They later divorced.
In 1943, Mary moved to Henryville, Ind., where she began working for the U.S. Census Bureau as a statistician. With this job, she lived and worked all over the world, including Taiwan. She later moved to Norman, Okla., as she continued her work.
In her later years, she moved to Jefferson, Ind., before moving to Creston in 1990 with the assistance of her sister Nancy.
During her life, she had been a member of Eastern Star, former worthy matron, and Henryville Presbyterian Church.
Mary is survived by her sister Nancy Houge of Creston; grandchildren, Lisa Sweeny of Jeffersonville, Ind., Michele (husband Greg) Furnish of Memphis, Ind., and Brian (wife Brittany) McNay of Jeffersonville, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; son Ed McNay; two sisters and five brothers.
