Tampico - Mary E. Elmendorf, age 87, of Princeton, Illinois, died on Wednesday December 7, 2011 at Liberty Village in Princeton, Illinois.
She was born on February 23, 1924 in Tampico, Illinois the daughter of Guy and Veronica (Deneen) Elmendorf. She received her teaching certificate from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb in 1946. She taught English at Dundee High School and Morrison High School and was the residence hall director at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. She received her PHD from Ohio State University, and was a counselor at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church of Princeton and the Princeton Women’s Club.
Mary is survived by one sister Mildred (Louis) Balika of Aurora, Illinois and 7 nieces and nephews Joseph (Juliet) Adams of Nyack, New York, Vera (Bruce) Adams of Indianapolis, Indiana, Maureen “Moe” (Dan) Conner of Walnut, Illinois, Judy (David) Craig of Minooka, Illinois, Julie (Allan) Isberg of Elburn, Illinois, Mary Beth (Richard) Schneider of Indianapolis, Indiana, David (Shirley) Balika of DeKalb, Illinois; numerous great nieces and nephews; and two great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Helen Adams.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday December 10, 2011 at 1 p.m.at St. Louis Catholic Church Princeton, with Father Jeff Stirniman, pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Tampico, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at the church. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HER MEMORY TO THE PRINCETON PUBLIC LIBRARY. Arrangements were completed by the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Condolences may be sent to www.garlandfuneralhome.com
