PROPHETSTOWN – Fred W. VanDeWostine, 84, of Prophetstown, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Prophetstown.

Fred was born July 13, 1928, in Geneseo, the son of Fred B. and June (Bentley) VanDeWostine. He married Florence Brooks on July 13, 1944, in Davenport, Iowa. Fred was a member of Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown and Geneseo Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed farming, collecting Jim Beam bottles, key chains, playing cards, and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Florence of Prophetstown; one daughter, Sylvia (Jim) Lane of Rock Falls; three sons, Lyle (Becky) VanDeWostine and Gene (Carol) VanDeWostine, both of Prophetstown, and Denny (Karen) VanDeWostine of Bettendorf, Iowa; one sister, Leah Abbit of East Moline; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Shirley Toxqui; one sister; and two brothers.

A gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, 46 Grove St., Prophetstown. The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Leon Cemetery in Prophetstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Nursing Home, 310 Mosher Drive, Prophetstown, IL 61277; and Leon Church, 17173 Lomax Road, Prophetstown, IL 61277.
