Walnut - Pastor Lauren W. Gerber, age 92, of Princeton, Illinois went home to be with his Lord and Savior after faithfully serving Him for over 65 years surrounded by his family who loved and adored him especially his two granddaughters Rachel Mary and Abigail Lauren who will dearly miss their papa.
Lauren was born on July 29, 1920 in Tampico, Illinois the son of Frank and Laura (Linder) Gerber . He was united in marriage to Mary Bakalar on April 19, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois. He was a graduate of Tampico High School in 1938, he then graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois in Pastoral Studies in 1944. Pastor Gerber earned his Doctorate in Theology from Clarksville School of Theology. He started new churches in rural Iowa and Nebraska before serving as pastor at the First Baptist Church in Bradford for 24 1/2 years. He supplied pulpits in many surrounding churches during his retirement until being placed on staff at Bunker Hill Church of God in Buda, Illinois as a Sr. Saints Pastor until his health declined.
He is survived by his wife Mary Gerber of Princeton, Illinois; five daughters Rose Marie (John) Wilson of Yelm Washington; Debbie Pease of Princeton, Illinois, Cheryl Gerber of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Marilyn (Rob) Jensen of Princeton, Illinois, Carol (Tom) Smith of Princeton, Illinois; one son Daniel Gerber of Princeton, Illinois; numerous grandchildren including June, Scott, Dale, Rachel, and Abby; one sister Carolyn Marquis of Sycamore, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife June, one daughter Ruth Ann, one son David, two brothers Milton Gerber and Lowell Gerber, one sister Joyce Gerber, one brother in law Melvin, and one son in law Tony Pease
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bunker Hill Church in Buda, Illinois. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Bunker Hill Church with the Rev. Stephen Myong, Rev. John Erickson, Rev. Ken Wilson, officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton, Illinois. A memorial has been established in his memory.
