PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Richard Walter Sommers, 88, of Prophetstown, Ill., died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at his home. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Prophetstown, with the Father Dan Peters of St. Katharine Drexell Catholic Church in Sugar Grove , Ill., officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, 320 Lafayette St., Prophetstown. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown.

Survivors include his wife, Marge, three daughters, Kim (Greg) Schmitt, Kate (Tony) Cody, and Karyn (Trent) Buck, all of Prophetstown; one daughter-in-law, Margie Sommers of Prophetstown; three sons, Kurt (Carolyn) Sommers, San Diego, Kerry (Kathy) Sommers, Coal Valley, and Kraig (Jessie) Sommers, Freeport, Ill; 13 grandchildren, Jon (Erin), Kiley, Tessa, Maggie (Adam), Brady (Melissa), Taylor, Allie, Morgan, Marquise, Allisa, Emma, Kory, and Kennedy; three step-grandchildren, Erica (Jeremy), Matt, and Alex; three great-grandchildren, Mykinzie, Dakota, and Benjamin; and one on the way; one sister, Diane (Robert) Roman of Prophetstown; three sisters-in-law, Shirley McKenna, Prophetstown, Marilyn (Bernard) Null, Erie, Ill., and Eileen Detra of Prophetstown; two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Maureen) Schehl, Sykesville, Md., and Bill (Judy) Schehl, Cambridge, Ill; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard is preceded in death by one son, Kris W. Sommers, one granddaughter, Nikole Sommers, and three brothers-in-law, Ron Holtz, Robert McKenna and Neil Detra.

Memorials may be made to the Prophetstown Historical Society, Prophetstown American Legion Post 522, Prophetstown Main Street Organization, and Prophetstown High School Athletic Scholarship.
