Walnut - Emma Alberta Tornow, age 97 of Sterling, Illinois formerly of Walnut and Tampico, Illinois died on Wednesday August 8, 2012 at Sterling Pavilion in Sterling, Illinois.

She was born on July 18, 1915 in Burnside, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph and Laura Jane (Evans) Oldham. She was united in marriage to Arlie Tornow on December 20, 1941 in Princeton, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1983. She was a telephone operator at the General Telephone in Walnut, Illinois, and also worked at Admiral Corporation in Dixon, Illinois and Peerless Level in Walnut, Illinois. She was a good caretaker and was friends with everyone. She also was a former member of the First Christian Church of Walnut.

Alberta is survived by two sisters Alta Sargent of Macomb, Illinois and Ada Plummer of Sterling, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Mildred Wolzfelt and two brothers Franklin and John Oldham. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday August 11 at 11 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. David Younker, pastor of the First Christian Church of Sterling, officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
