Donald Vincent Brophy, 83, of 135 N. Central St., Ladd died at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26, 2004, in Hines Veterans Hospital, Chicago.

There will be no visitation. Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be at a later date.

Hurst Funeral Home in Ladd is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brophy was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Tampico to Thomas and Anna (Brandau) Brophy. He married Ann J. Schwartz on Feb. 14, 1947.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and owned Brophy's Lawn & Garden Shop in Ladd.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Brophy of San Antonio, Texas, and James Brophy of Ottumwa, Iowa; and one brother, Robert Brophy of Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 4, 1993.
