She was born July 18, 1926, in Prophetstown, the daughter of Harry and Inez (Clary) Zarr. Ruth was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools, and was a 1944 graduate of Prophetstown High School. She married Glenn M. Schutt on Oct. 11, 1945, in Sterling.

During World War II, Ruth was employed as a secretary at the Rock River Ordnance Plant. She also farmed with her husband, Glenn, in the rural Prophetstown and Rock Falls areas for many years, retiring in 2006, when they moved to Coventry Village in Sterling.

Ruth attended First Congregational United Church of Christ in Prophetstown, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also was an active member of the King’s Daughters. Ruth enjoyed baking, gardening, traveling, and helping others. 

Survivors include her husband, Glenn; one daughter, Gloria (Hans) Hollinsworth of Bradenton, Florida; one grandson, Brian Ruttenberg; and two great-grandchildren, Mason James and Tessa Ruth Ruttenberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Gilbert Zarr.

There will be no visitation or funeral. A private family graveside service will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to CGH Health Foundation in Sterling.
