Lyda Settles

Mrs. Lyda Settles, 61, Lyndon, died early Friday morning at the Lutheran Hospital, Moline.

Funeral Serves were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Lyndon Congregational Church with the Rev. James Swenson officiating. Burial was in the Lyndon Cemetery.

Mrs. Lyda Settles was born on July 21, 1903, in Lyndon,  the daughter of Orlando and Mahala Hicks Cady. She was educated in the Lyndon Grade School  and graduated from Prophetstown High School. On June 19, 1927, she married Robert Settles of Lyndon in her home in Lyndon. They farmed in Lyndon community ‘til 1959, when they moved to their present home. She was a lifelong member of the Lyndon Congregational Church, was one of the founders and was the first president of the Lyndon Historical Society, was a member of the Lyndon Ladies Club and the Lyndon Birthday Club. She taught for 11 years in the area rural schools and later served as secretary at the Lyndon schools for a number of years.

Surviving are her husband, one son, Donald Settles, Northville, Michigan; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one son and one brother.
