John R. Steien, 73, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, in Loyola Medical Center, Maywood, IL.
 
John was born August 2, 1941, in Tampico, IL; the son of Rolf G. and Leverna E. (Adams) Steien. He married Caroln J. Scott, January 5, 1962, in Chicago Heights, IL. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp from 1959 to 1965. He was employed by International Harvester, Chicago, IL, for a few years and then by Northwestern Steel & Wire, Sterling, IL, as an electrician and machinist for 30 years, retiring in 
1996. He was a member of the American Legion, Morrison, IL. He loved the farm life, his family and any activities with his grandchildren.
 
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Steien of Morrison, IL; two daughters, amela (Andy) Pfister of Morrison, IL, and Teresa (David) Ray of Fulton, IL; eight grandchildren, Brandon Ray, Travis Ray, Jason (Amy) Wiersema, Amanda Wiersema, Nathan Pfister, Chad (Shanna Given) Pfister, Carrie Wright, and Andrea Pfister; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Elizabeth (Jim) Gavett of Richardson, TX, Mary (Merle) Krogman of Stockton, IL, Jane Merrill of Freeport, IL, Lori Richter Pollack of Freeport, IL, and Anna Dummer of Fairfax, MN; and two  brothers, Carl (Charlice) Steien of Warren, IL, and Mark (Kathy) Steien of Hollandale, WI.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy, and three borthers-in-law.
 
A memorial to the Ronald McDonald House, Minneapolis, MN, has been established in the honor of his neice Sydney Johnson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the McDonald Funeral Home, Fulton, IL. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015, at the funeral home, with Reverend James Camp officiating. Inurnment will be held at Cottonwood Cemetery, Morrison, IL. A memorial to the Ronald McDonald House, Minneapolis, MN, has been established in the honor of his niece Sydney Johnson.
