Tampico - Margery L. VanDeVelde , age 88, of Rock Falls, Illinois, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Sterling Pavilion in Sterling.
Marge was born on October 26, 1926 in Manlius, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Clara (Shepard) Allen. She was united in marriage to Virgil VanDeVelde on February 15, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico, Illinois. She was employed at the Sterling Gazette for about 30 years. She was a member of the Altrusa Club in Sterling and enjoyed ballroom dancing.
She is survived by her husband Virgil VanDeVelde of Rock Falls, Illinois; two sons Douglas VanDeVelde of Rock Falls, Illinois, Brian (Pamela) VanDeVelde of Rock Falls, Illinois, two grandchildren Casey and Crystal; two great-grandchild Caden and Austin; one sister Judy Swanson of Geneseo, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico with Msgr. Thomas Dzielak, pastor officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tampico.
