Ruth E. Kelly, age 97, of Tampico, Illinois died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Prophetstown, Illinois.
Ruth was born January 20, 1918 in Sterling, Illinois the daughter of Roy Earl and Margaret (Sturm) McKenzie. She was united in marriage to Richard Dale Kelly on July 10, 1941 in Tampico. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1990. Ruth was a professional pianist in Chicago and Rockford area during her lifetime. She was a member of the Tampico Methodist Church and was active in the American Lung Association. Ruth attended Illinois Wesleyan College and the University of Illinois, majoring in music.
She is survived by one son, Day Kelly of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one daughter, Margot (Tim) Downey of Vernon Hills, Illinois; seven grandchildren (Day – Michael, Faith, Isaiah, Luke; Margot – Stephen, David, Daniel); two great grandchildren (Caleb, McKenzie) and two nieces (Sandra McKenzie Schmitt, Connie Essig).
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Dana in infancy and one sister, Mary Lou Schmitt.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 2:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. following the visitation on Thursday, with Rev. Leanne Keate, pastor of the Tampico United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in Tampico Memorial Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Tampico United Methodist Church. Garland Funeral Home in Tampico is handling the arrangements.
