Michael B. Perino
Michael B. Perino, Lt. Col. (ret), 84 died Friday, March 25, 201,6 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL.
He was born on July 14, 1931, near Deer Grove, IL the son of Ralph and Catherine (Carchidi) Perino. He graduated from Walnut High School; he earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1952 and earned his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
He had served for over 22 years in the US Airforce having served in Korean and three tours of duty in the Vietnam War as a pilot. He was awarded the Purple Hearts; 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses; the Silver Star; Bronze Star (2); Combat Readiness Medals (2) ; The Air Medal (4 Bronze and 7 Silver); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals (4); Air Force Commendation Medal; Outstanding Unit Award (3 medals); Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm (2 bronze, 4 silver); Vietnam Service Medal (1 bronze, 2 silver); Presidential Unit Citation (4 ribbons). He retired in 1975.
Survivors include his daughter, Christina Perino of Buck Eye, AZ; his sisters: Elizabeth Perino of Naples, FL, Dolorosa Bender of Seattle, WA and Constance Dominguez of MT; his brother John Perino of FL; his sisters-in-law: Marge Perino, Gloria Perino and Jeanne Perino; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers; 4 sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 1, 2016 from 4-7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 10 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampico, IL. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Tampico.
