SHEFFIELD — Eugene J. Calsyn, 73, of Sheffield passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, in the Perry Memorial Hospital emergency room in Princeton.
Gene was born on Dec. 25, 1941, in Tampico, the son of Willie R. and Irene (Maas) Calsyn. He graduated from Walnut High School in 1959. He was united in marriage to Sharon K. Plasschaert on Oct. 15, 1966, in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheffield.
Gene proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966 during the Vietnam War. He was a steel worker at LTV Steel in Hennepin for 34 years, from which he retired in 2001.
Gene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheffield. He was an avid and accomplished woodworker. He enjoyed golfing and watching football. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Craig (Laurie) Calsyn and Chad Calsyn; and his sister, Marilyn (August) Lowder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Christopher Calsyn.
A memorial Mass celebrating his life will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheffield. Father Mark Miller will celebrate. Inurnment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Sheffield.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheffield.
Memorials may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
