Lowell E. Egert, age 80, of 513 Washington St., Prophetstown, Illinios, formerly of Tampico, Illinois, died Monday, May 31, 2004 at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois.


Mr. Egert was born on March 6, 1924, in Prophetown, Illinois, the son of Ransom and Nora (McCombs) Egert. He was united in marriage to Mabel Forward on December 25, 1944. He farmed in the Tampico area during his lifetime and was a rural mail carier for 30 years. He also was a crop adjuster for Country Companies Insurance for about 15 years. He was member of the Erie Christian Church in Erie, Illinois, and a charter member of the Tampico Lions Club. He and his wife's Christmas lights were a big attraction in Tampico, Illinios, attracting thousands of people for many years.


He is survived by his wife, Mabel Egert of Prophetstwon, Illinois; two daughters, Diana Catron of Carthage, Missour, Lana (Larry) Musche of Tampico, Ilinois; five grandchildren,  Lowell (Valarie) Catron of Carthage, Missouri; Jodi (Richard) Hodkin of Carthage, Missouri; Carla (Tom) Morris of Parker, Colorado, James (Stacey) Musche of Carthage, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren and one great-grandson; one sister, Audrey (Virgil) Murray of Grass Valley, California; and several nieces and nephew.


He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.


Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, at 10 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico with Martin Stump, pastor of the Erie Christian Church in Erie, Illinois officiating. Burial will be in Tampico Memorial Cemetery in Tampico, Illinois.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. A memorial has been established in his memory.
