BARBARA JOAN RODGERS

Barbara Joan RODGERS, 71, of Sycamore, Ill., formerly of Glen Ellyn, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Central DuPage Hospital inWinfield.

Born Jan. 11, 1935, in Sterling, she was the daughter of Claude Albert and Bernice Estella (McKENZIE) JOHNSON. She married Daniel B. RODGERS on Aug. 4, 1957 in Tampico.

She was a former high school teacher who taught business courses in several schools, including Genbard West High School. She was a graduate of Tampico High School, received a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University, and a master's degree from National Louis  University.

She was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and a former member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Glenn Ellyn.  She was a member of United Methodist Women, the Mary Circle of the church, Sycamore United Methodist Church Missions Committee and was a volunteer treasurer of the Columbian Literary Club, a member and past recording secretary of Sycamore Woman's Club and was a member of the Red Hat Society of several bridge clubs.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family and her many friends. She enjoyed her summer home in Manitowish Waters, Wis., where she spent many hours watching birds and walking in the quiet wooded areas. She was a generous person who was always helping othr people with her gifts.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel b. RODGERS of Sycamore; a son, Steven Daniel RODGERS of Winfield; a daughter, Marjorie Joan (Steven) EARL of Veazie, Maine; two grandchildren, Rachel McKENZIE and Jacob Daniel EARL;  three brothers, Donald (Elaine) JOHNSON of St. Charles, Paul (Nora) JOHNSON of Peotone and Gary JOHNSON of Moline; tow sisters-in-law, Helen MARTENEZ of San Bernadino, Calif., and Barbara (George) NELSON of Highland, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew.

The funeral service will be  held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sespt. 19, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave.. Interment will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 18, at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home. A memorial fund is established for Sycamore United Methodist Church in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
