DEATH CALLS HIM SUDDENLY

 J. H. SUMPTION Falls Over in Post Office and Expires a Short Time Afterward

 J. H. SUMPTION, a well known citizen of this community, died very suddenly last Friday evening at 6:30 o'clock in Dr. Wahl's office where he had been carried after a collapse which occurred in the lobby of the post office about two hours earlier. He was purchasing a stamp of Mrs. RICHARDSON and one of the pennies dropped onto the floor. In stooping to pick it up he was taken with a stroke or heart trouble and fell to the floor. Mrs. RICHARDSON was all alone and immediately summoned help. He was gotten into a comforatable position and a stretcher secured from PARENT's store, on which he was laid and then carried to the doctor's office by Jerry KELLY, Percy HAYES, Chas.COOLEY and John PLETSCH. He lost consciousness shortly after being placed on the stretcher and gradually passed away. Death was probably due to heart trouble or hemorrhage of the stomach as he vomited quantities of blood. After death the remains were taken to PARENT's undertaking rooms. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church, Rev. C. D. MAYHEW having charge of the services. Several selections were rendered by a quartette composed of Leve COLBERG, Mrs. F. HERRICK, Miss Myrtle EMMONS, and Gabe BARGEMAN. Mrs. HERRICK and Miss EMMONS also sang a duet. There were a number of nice floral tributes. The pall bearers were: Austin FOY, David SLY, Fred SMITH, Alfred SMITH, Levi LUTYENS. Interment was in the Tampico Cemetery. John Howard SUMPTION was born in Belmont County, Ohio, April 10, 1847. He was the son of Wm. B. and Rachel Howard SUMPTION. He lived on the farm and attended the public schools in his native county until 1864 when he came to LaSalle County, Illinois. In 1879 he married Rachel KENNEY and in 1896 they moved to Tampico in which vicinity he lived until his departure. He leaves ************** Vera M. METCALF of Vergil, South Dakota. The deceased was not a member of any society having been raised a Friend (Quaker). He was of a kindly disposition and always ready to assist others living as he had been taught, a brother to all men.
