L. W. DENISON LAID AT REST]

Funeral services for L. W. DENISON, 85, lifelong resident of this community, were held at three o’clock Friday afternoon at the Parent chapel, REV. HOLLIS WHARTON, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the service. He read portions of the 90th Psalm and gave a short message of comfort.]

MISS DOROTHY CAIN of Rockford, MRS. EDWIN TEMPLE and MRS. JENNIE LOU were in charge of flowers. MRS. A. A. YARDE SR. and MISS DONNA PETER sang “Sometime” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” accompanied by MRS. NEVA DENISON.]

Burial was in the Tampico Memorial cemetery with WILLIAM BURKE, R. M. HOCKMAN, LAROY WESCOTT, HERMAN LINDEN, R. L. GLASSBURN and A. E. BENNETT as pallbearers. Those attending from away were MR. & MRS. LEE DOW of East Moline, MR. & MRS. ASA STEWART, sons MERLE and ROLAND of Sterling, MRS. ELLEN STEWART and JACOB CANTLIN of Rock Falls.]

LESLIE W. DENISON, son of HENRY L. and LOUISA NEWTON DENISON was born Oct. 29, 1863 in Tampico, Ill., where he spent practically his entire life. On Feb. 20, 1887, he was united in marriage with MAUD DOW and to this union was born three children, RICHARD, LOIS KOLB and LINNIE SHERE of Tampico.]

With the exception of two years spent teaching in South Dakota, they made their home in Tampico where he taught in the rural and grade schools until about 1911. He was then cashier of the Tampico State Bank until his retirement.]

Mr. Denison served several terms as village clerk and was active in community affairs. In his younger days he was a member of the Tampico band and was interested in local sports. Since the death of his wife in July of 1939, he had lived alone in his home until his last illness when he was joined by his son-in-law and daughter, MR. & MRS. JACK SHERE. Mr. Denison passed away at his home Wednesday, Dec. 22, after being bedfast less than two days.]

Besides the children, he is survived by one sister, MRS. ELLEN STEWART of Rock Falls and one brother, HERMAN DENISON of Madison, Wis., now wintering in Florida, also one grandson and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by one sister, MRS. LUNA CUMMINGS and three brothers, NEWTON, TRACY and ELMER.]
