Mrs. Lovina Booth Laid at Rest
Funeral services for Mrs. Lovina BOOTH, who passed away at Sterling Public Hospital last Tuesday afternoon at the age of 93, were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Parent Funeral Parlor. At the request of the deceased, Mrs. Dwight ELLISON read the Christian Science Service. Mrs. Alfred BOYER, soloist, sang "No Night There" and "Mother's Evening Prayer" Mrs. R. F WOODS served as organist.
The service were (sic) attended by neighbor and friends from Tampico and neighboring towns. Two step-granddaughters, Mrs. Maude G. HOWLAND and Mrs. Marian Lovina MICHELSEN, of east Lansing, Michigan, were called here by her death and remained for the services. There were many beautiful flowers.
Burial was in the Yorktown cemetery. Harry PETERSON, E. W. VICKREY, Alfred BEYER, William PETERSON, Charles LINDQUIST and Arthur LINDQUIST served as pallbearers.
Lovina R. BOOTH, daughter of William BRIGGS and Mary Magdalene BOWDISH, was born near Albany, N. Y., July 12, 1850. At the age of 14, she qualified as a school teacher and received her certificate, but continued her schooling for two years. She taught near Charleston, N. Y. for one year.
When 17 years old, she came with her parents to a farm near Morrison, Ill. where she attended high school before continuing teaching. She taught for eight years before her marriage to Horace A. BOOTH of Yorktown in the fall of 1879. They made their home on a farm east of Yorktown for nine years before moving into Yorktown where they conducted a store. Mr. and Mrs. BOOTH moved to Yorktown to the BOOTH home where Mrs. BOOTH resided until her death. Her husband preceded her in death in 1899. In 1927 Mrs. Booth deeded the lots known as BOOTH Memorial Park in the village (of Tampico).
