IDA LANE

 
Miss Ida Lane, 88, Retired Teacher Dies, Funeral Rites Tuesday
 
Prophetstown: - Miss Ida E. Lane, 88, died Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at her home in the Leon community, following an extended illness.
 
The body was removed to the Gardner Funeral Chapel where friends may call. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. (CST) at the Prophetstown Methodist Church, the Rev. Henry Holverson, Pastor of the Leon Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Leon cemetery.
 
Miss Lane, daughter of William and Elizabeth Rowe Lane, was born April 28, 1870 on a farm in the Leon community where her parents were pioneer settlers, the farm is now known as the C. F. Lane farm. At the age of fourteen she moved with her parents to the adjoining farm where she spent the remainder of her lifetime.
 
She was educated in the Prophetstown community schools and attended the Northwestern Normal school at Geneseo.  She taught for 31 years, 22 years of which were at the Centerville school.  She made many friends and was greatly respected throughout the community.  She was interested in all her pupils both during the time they attended her school and throughout their lives.  After retiring from teaching she became interested in the operation of the farm, which she operated with her nephew, Kenneth Woolums, who made his home with her from childhood.
 
She was a member of the Leon Methodist Church, Social Advancement Society, SCTU and the Country Club.  She planned the first memorial program at the Leon GAR soldiers buried there.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Sarah Ellena Lane, Mrs. Nellie Whitcome, Mrs. Grace Woolums;  one brother Charles Francis Lane and one half-sister, Mrs. Ella Hubbard.
 
She is survived by one brother, W. Clark Lane, one sister Mrs. Mary Naftzger, Prophetstown and a number of nieces and nephews.
