RODNEY CHARLES HULL

Prophetstown Youth Killed As Antenna Hits Live Wire

A 16-year-old Prophetstown High School junior met sudden death this morning shortly after 7 o'clock when the television antenna he was removing from a rural home struck a high voltage power line.

Rodney Charles Hull, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mallory Hull, 212 W. Railroad St., Prophetstown, had gone to the rural home of Kent Border, 7 miles southwest of Prophetstown, early today to help him move his household furnishings to Prophetstown where he had rented a house.

Apparently the youth had climbed to the roof of the house and was taking down the antenna.  It was impossible to learn how or why the equipment hit the high tension wire which runs through the yard within 20 feet of the home, but the shock killed the young man instantly.

Whiteside County Coroner John Ardapple will conduct an inquest tonight at 7 p.m. at the Gardner Funeral Home in Prophetstown where the arrangements have been completed.

He was born on Feb. 4 1946 in Moline, the son of Mallory and Laura C. Hull.  Mrs. Mallory Hull is a teacher in the Prophetstown Elementary School system.

Surviving besides the parents are one brother, Douglas, a sister, Cynthia, both at home. Also surviving are the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Perry Heller, paternal grandfather, Harvey Hull, and paternal grandmother, Maysie Hull, all of Prophetstown.

Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Gardner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 5, at 1:30 p.m in the First Congregational Church, Prophetstown.  Conducting the services will be Rev. William Nicoll, pastor of the First Methodist Church and Rev. Nelson Chasteen, pastor of the First Congregational Church
