MRS. JACOB H. GEORGE, 76, FORMER SUPT. MT. CARMEL ORPHANAGE, PASSES
Mrs. Jacob H. GEORGE, 76, of Van Nuys, Cal., passed away in her home at 6:15 Saturday morning according to a telegram received by J. A. GEORGE of Morrison from her son David GEORGE. Mrs. GEORGE had been in failing health for the past few monghs. Howerver her death came as a shock to local relatives.
She is survived by two sons, Paul of Africa and David of Van Nuys, Calf., and three grandchildren: Paul Jr.; Carl, and Anna Lou. She is also survived by two brothers Arthur ZOOK of Kansas City, Mo. And Joseph Irvin ZOOK of Peru, Ill. Everett MARTIN of Pennsylvania and Mrs. Mrs. Esther NELSON of California a nephew and niece who were raised in the GEORGE home also survive.
Her husband died last spring. She was also preceded in death by two children who died in infancy and two brothers, David and Eber and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah CRESS (sp?), Mrs. Rhoda MARTIN and Martha.
She was a daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Noah and Mary SNOKE ZOOK, was born in Pennsylvania and later moved to Abilene, Kansas with the family. She taught school and was married to Jacob H. GEORGE February 1895 in the home of his parents at Coleta, IL. They farmed north of Morrison and she was superintendent of Mr. Carmel orphanage in its early days. They moved to Des Moines, Ia., where they lived seven years and then moved to Goodman, Mo. Where they spent most of their lives leaving for California last fall. She was a member of the Bretheren in Christ Church.
Funearl services were held up Upland, California Tuesday, August 21, and burial was made in the Upland Cemetery.
