William Mathis Services Thursday
 
Prophetstown: - William Mathis, 61, Prophetstown, died Monday evening at Community General Hospital, Sterling.
 
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Prophetstown.  The Rev. Daniel Boxwell will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Prophetstown.  Friends may visit the Gardner Chapel Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m.  A memorial has been established for the First Congregational Church.
 
William Mathis was born March 9, 1917 at Hooppole, and moved to Prophetstown as a young boy and lived there most of his life.  His parents were Roscoe and Margaret Allison Mathis.  He was a graudate of Prophetstown High School and attended the University of Missouri.  He was a member of the First Congregational Church.  He married Aileen Baldwin of Prophetstown, at Iowa City, Iowa, Aug. 18, 1937.  He was employed by the Yorktown Lumber and Grain Company for 30 years.
 
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Sally) Moore, Fort Leavenworth, Kans., and three grandchildren;  one brother, James, Prophetstown; three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Madsen, Fern Park, Fla.;  Mrs. John (Margaret) Poulter and Mrs. Georgianne Thede, both of Prophetstown.
 
He was precded in death by his parents, his wife in 1950, and twin sons in infancy.
