Submitted by Les Niemi

September 9, 1920 The frist response of the Volunteer Fire Department to a genuine fire alarm took place Friday afternoon when an alarm was turned in from R.E. McKENZIE's hardware store. The fire was caused by the exhaust from a gasoline engine igniting spilled gasoline on and under the floor of the implement ware house and for a short time looked like the blaze might be a serious one. Prompt action by the store force putthe blaze out before the arrival of the fire engine. The fire engine was manned and made a quick run to the fire, standing by untill all danger of a fresh breakout of fire was over.
