I was referred to this website through Classmates. You do a great job. I was raised in Tampico and have attended some of the Alumni reunions. It appears I am the last of the class of 1938. At the last reunion I was given the name of Lauren Gerber as still be alive, but received no reply to my letter to him at the address given. Does anyone know if he is still alive? I was interested in the postings by Lillian Gudgell. Lyle was one of my classmates. At the 2005 reunion I did get to chat with Maynard and Verna Peterson and with Doc Temple - a couple of other oldtimers. Keep up the good work. Bob Maxwell

Robert,
Are you any relation to Dr. J.C., MAXWELL, Glen MAXWELL, Harry MAXWELL, Ruth MAXWELL or Jennie MAXWELL who are all mentioned in the Tampico Tornado newspaper from the 1890's to the 1920's?

RE: Lauren Gerber

Thanks for the reply on Lauren Gerber -at least two of us are still alive. Does he have an e-mail address?

To the best of my knowledge I am not related to any of the Maxwells listed except for Ruth Maxwell. She was my mother. My father was Harold Maxwell who worked for a while at Simpsons-Powel Lumber Company. My grandmother was Ida Harrington whose husband was a civil war veteran and had other family members farming in and around Tampico.

I was scanning down the Message Board and came to your "Harrington" column - went to it - and posted a message that Ida (Becker) Harrington was my grandmother. I then went to this site and am answering your post.

I don't know what information you would like. My grandmother died in Franklin Grove, IL She is buried in the Tampico Cemetery. I can furnish the dates of death for her and for my mother and any other family information you would want. Just let me know.

I believe I'm related to Lauren Gerber and would like to hear from him or from any of his family.

I'm the granddaughter of Mayme Gerber Drayton. Mayme's father was Philip Gerber and his father was Frank Otto Gerber. The Gerber's are from the Hooppole area.

The Drayton's are also from the Tampico area and I would love to hear from any of the Draytons.

In addition, I'm related to Rasmus Johnson and would like to know more about him.

Thank you for any help.

Marylin,

I have a Frank O. GERBER in my database, b. 1889 Hooppole d. 1981 Tampico. Wife Laura LINDER m 1917.

The children I have in my database are: Carolyn, Joyce, Milton, Rev. Lauren, Lowell but no Philip.

Are these GERBERs related to yours, and, if so, can you supply information about Phillip and Mayme?

Thanks,
Les

To Marilyn Drayton Beatty

I am the son of Frank O. Gerber, born 1889, died 1981. The person that was Philip's father was also my father's father. My father & Philip are brothers. I have a family photo of Philip and his 4 sisters and 3 brothers with their parents, you may like to have a copy of that. Since I am a photographer that can be done easily. I also have a record of when my father's family came to this country from Germany. I also have some history of their home in Sundhausen, Germany. Plese get in touch with me through the Message board. A cousin, Lowell Gerber, Dallas, Texas

Just an FYI - Marilyn & Lowell have "connected." If anyone wants to continue on the GERBER family line, I would recommend you start a new message thread with GERBER in the Subject line.

Ihadn't read this post for awhile or would have responded sooner. I did reach Lauren Gerber. He lives at 419 W. Peru, Princton, IL. We got together at the last alumni banquet. He might be able to help you with the geneology searches. Bob M

Ok, so doing a little GERBER research in my famly database I show Philip GERBER m Olive BRANTS (10/28/1899 per Illinois Statewide Marriage Index online) and Philip's sister Emma GERBER m Aaron BRANTS (3/5/1896 per ISMI online).

I searched the LDS.org family history files for GERBER/BRANTS and found links to the 1880 Yorktown, Henry Co., IL census that shows:

Ephran and Lizzie BRANTS (52yr and 48yr) who are shown with their children: Ella (15), Anna (14), Aaron (11 - husband of Emma GERBER??), Fred (8) and Minne (5).

Further, their household is next door to Corneleus (son of Ephran???) and Matilda BRANTS who are shown in the 1880 Yorktown, Henry Co., IL census (24yr and 17yr) with daughter Olive (1yr - wife of Philip GERBER??).

Also searching the ISMI on-line I found:
BRANTS, CORNELIUS m LUTHER, OTELIA 11/17/1877 HENRY CO.

Assuming this may be the same Cornelius listed in the 1880 census I searched the Rootsweb.com site for BRANTS, Conelius and LUTHER (spouse) and found - http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=linnell3&id=I0741

Otelia Matilda LUTHER spouse of Nick Cornelius BRANT (m Henry Co., 11/18/1877). There was no listing for Nick Cornelius's parents; however, Otelia Matilda LUTHER's parents were listed as:

George Peter LUTHER (b Germany), Mary Elizabeth MILLER (b France) with children:

Mary Elizabeth Luther b: 23 AUG 1841 in Whiteside Co., IL
Sarah Luther b: 19 OCT 1843 in IL
Anna Eliza Luther b: 9 MAR 1846 in IL
Abraham Luther b: 19 JUN 1848 in IL
Catherine Magdalena Luther b: 23 AUG 1850 in Henry Co., IL
Sufrona Luther b: 9 JUN 1852 in Henry Co., IL
Christina Luther b: 1854 in Henry Co., IL
Martin Luther b: 1856 in Henry Co., IL
Franklin Freemont Luther b: 16 APR 1858 in Henry Co., IL
Peter George Luther b: 21 NOV 1860 in IL (married Anna BRANTS 4/8/1884 Henry Co., IL)
Otelia Matilda Luther b: 17 APR 1863 in IL (married Nick Cornelius BRANTS 11/18/1877 Henry Co., IL)
Olive Julia Luther b: 1 APR 1865 in Kankakee, Henry Co., IL
Charles Ellsworth Luther b: 23 JAN 1868 in Hooppole, Henry Co., IL

Unfortunately, I was not able to make any further connections for the BRANTS - but it certainly appears that the Cornelius listed in the 1880 census may have been the father of Olive who married Philip GERBER and the brother of Aaron who married Emma GERBER.

I also did a search of the Tampico Tornado files I have transcribed and found the following interesting article that mentions Aaron BRANTS and Phillip (sic) GERBER indicating Philip died near Aaron's farm in a car accident:

June 26, 1919
The accident of Tony SCHNELL on the Aaron BRANTS farm southwest of here last week recalled the fact that two other accidents have happened in the same vicinity and some people are wondering if there might be a "hodoo." It will be remembered that Robt. COLLINS lost his arm in a shelter down there, a few years later Phillip GERBER was killed when his car overturned and now Tony SCHNELL was hurt quite badly all of which makes the superstitious shake thier heads.

Any help further evidence/information linking the BRANTS together (and the same for the LUTHERs) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Les Niemi

Gerbers/Brants

Les, you are correct in assuming that Nick Cornelius and Aaron Brants were brothers, both sons of Ephraim.

I am connected to the Gerbers but also have connections to the Brants and Luther families. If you are interested in more information, please contact me personally and I will be glad to help you or any others with this information.

Sincerely,

Hello
I am looking for information about the Maxwell Family of Houston Texas. James Perry Sr. married Janie (Meitnen) abt 1919, had a son James Perry Jr in Nov.1920 who died in WWII.
JP Sr. was a Navy Seabee. He had a brother Robert of Houston. James Perry Sr. and Janie moved to Dallas in the late 40's or early 1950's.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Chris,
Do you have reason to believe this family ever lived in Whiteside or Bureau Counties in IL? If not, I would recommend you find a TX msg board for better response. Perhaps "our" Maxwells have family down there. Best of luck to you!

Sorry, I haven't checked this website for several months so did not see the query about Maxwells in Texas.
To my knowledge we have no Maxwells of our Tampico background in Texas. My grandparents on the Maxwell side migrated from the Morrison area to the state of Oregon and then on to Washington state. It is possible that some neices and nephews may have "gone South" from there, but I have no knowledge of it.
