I have been searching for my GGGrandmother. My GGrandmother Katherine Kane was married in Whiteside Cty Mar 27, 1864 in Fulton City to John L Rooney, all came from Ireland. Katherine (nee Kane) Rooney's death certificate states she was born Nov 11, 1845 in Gounty Galway Ireland, her mothers name to be Bridget Kane, nothing more and no fathers name. Oral info passed down thru generations says Bridget married a Mr. Grace! Other stories abound as follows:She came to America with her children (plural) and sisters Ellen, Alice, Mary/Margaret plus one name unk, and brothers James & Joseph O'Neill going 1st to Rock Island Cty then settling in Tampico Twp in Whiteside Cty.:That in Ireland she told her husband, (a Kane I presume), that she was taking the children and going to America and that he was welcome to come along;another has Mr. Kane being killed at boarding time in some sort of religious ordeal. I have suspicions that she might have had 3 children, 2 daughters Katherine/Kate and Ellen Bridget/Bridget Ellen and 1 son name unk. I found in the 1870 census for Illinois/Whiteside/Fulton, page 12 the following living under the same roof; Patrick Grace Male 50 Works on Railroad and a Bridget Grace Female 65 Keeping House. This is the only documentation I find and am not sure it is who I am chasing. . They were Catholic! I am hoping this note touches a nerve with someone out there! Any information or Direction would be appreciated. Bob Hartzell/Texas rhartzell@houston.rr.com
