I am a great grandson of S.M (Sumner Mott) Harrington. I have done extensive research and have photos to share with anyone doing research.

I am looking for more information on Albert E. Harrington, and his family.

My grandmother was Ida (Becker) Harrington and was married to your grandfather. As a boy I lived in the house that they owned in Tampico.

I received the following email regarding the HARRINGTON family - can anyone help her?: ~ Denise

Hello. Would any one have an interest or know of or be related to
Harringtons in Bureau County,IL.?
Cannot give you much but yes or no or a shake of the head. My only known
thing for a fact Ann Harrington married Samuel Shaw on 28 Nov 1841 in Bureau
county,IL. A wagon train of people from Providence,R.I. came to Bureau
County in 1837. I have so many pages on that trip. About the high light was
when the women and small childen were on a ship coming down or going up. The
men had the ship tied up with rope as big and heavy as could be found and
some how some one lost grip on their rope and the ship got away on the men.
The ship started going from bank to the other and the men were so scared but
they wouldnt quit till they got it going the right way. They were so elated
when they got to a huge dock. When the women and children got off the ship
their husbands was hugging them and their children. When told about the ship
and how it got away the women just looked at each other. They said a few
kettles and other small stuff fell, but other then that they didnt even get
knocked down or any thing. They had a trip to talk about for months. But
alas we ar moving and all my papers are already moved to the other place.
Thank you for reading this if you did.
Viola.

Hi Kent. Do you know where your Harrington family lived in IL. Was it in Bureau county? Do you know if they came from Providence,R.I. in 1837? Do you know of a Sherman in your family or Shaw? How about first names like James, John or Thomas. These might be cousins. Can you think of any thing when you were young.
Thank you.
Viola.

For those checking the name of "Harrington". There was a family named Harrington in Geneseo who were quite prominent as I recall. A Don Harrington, was a life long friend of my Grandfather, Clark Hixson, and was a pall bearer at my Grandfather's funeral. I believe there is one or more photos of the Harringtons in the Geneseo History Book. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tom. We also have a Harrington Photo Album on this site: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Harrington_Family_Album.html

Funny, while I was researching something else, I ran across this tidbit in a June 4, 1925 Tornado:
A number of relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Harrington last week, the occasion being in honor of Mrs. Harrington's birthday. The evening was spent in playing games and visiting, later on nice refreshments being served. Mrs. Harrington received a number of nice remembrances, and will certainly remember this birthday for a long time. Those present were the families of John Kilroy, Walter Foy, Paul Wagenkiecht, Glenn Harrington and Harry Kilroy.

Hi Viola,
To my knowledge, there is no Buda or Prophetstown in Stark County, IL. Buda is in Bureau Co. and Prophetstown (which is where I live) is in Whiteside County, IL. It may helpful to check Wikipedia for Stark County, IL. It will show you a map and also give you a list of towns and townships. I didn't see a Cass Twp. either.
