I have just returned from Tampico searching for my ancestors. I received alot of good leads from Denise at the Historical Society. I am stumped on finding alot about WILLIAM FOY. He was a native of Vermont, and was born about 1788. He was married to Ruth Morrill, also from Vermont. They had 10 children. They moved to McDonough County, IL in 1839, had a farm, and moved to Whiteside Co. in aprox 1853, and died in Prairie City, IL in 1869. Ruth died in Prophetstown, IL on Sept 21,1864. I can not find any information regarding WILLIAM FOY's parents or ancestors. PLEASE HELP. Thank you. David Foy Knoxville, TN

Hi David, I didn't get a chance to say good-bye! Have you checked the family charts on the LDS? I'm going on memory now, but there was a chart for Wm. and listed his father as Charles (I think - I have to check my notes again).
Also, did you get in touch with Janet Goodell? I forgot to tell you to check with the area churches for records. They often contain much more info than civil records. Janet could probably help you out there.
Here are some websites for Prairie City: McDonough Co., IL - Prairie City Twp Index http://www.macomb.com/~ilmcdono/townships/PrairieCitytpindex.html

I still haven't found anything that lists Wm.'s town or county where he was born. You could start with the Vt. State historical society and work backwards. Try to find out what institution or organization would keep funeral logs, and/or church archives.
If none of this leads anywhere, get back to me and I'll see if I can find anything else.
It was wonderful to get to meet you in person.

I have Wm and Ruth in my database thru their son George FOY who married Nancy P. DICKERSON 4/30/1844 in McDonough Co., IL. Nancy P. DICKERSON was the sister of my ggg granmother Anna DICKERSON JONES. I don't have any more information regarding Wm and Ruth than is posted here; however, I would be greatly interested in getting any information on the 9 other siblings of George. Thanks, Les

The following message was emailed to me from John Pritchard:
David, I just read about your recent trip to Tampico, and you and following information have touched on several people that I have in my family file. I live in Prophetstown, and have relatives buried in the Leon Cemetery, and several of the Foy names are familiar. In the material presented in this post, I find EDWARD J. FORWARD. At the time of reading this information, he was in my file as Edward Forward. Edward is a brother to my direct line William Forward. Edward Forward & Eunice Elmira Foy, have a Whiteside County Marriage Licence # 2242, dated 31 January, 1869. In my note file on him: "Dec. 24, 2001; After finding his first wife and daughter in the Leon Cemetery yesterday, today I find in the 1900, Biographical Record of Whiteside County, Il., Edward locates near Wichita, Kansas." I ran a census search on him (as I remember) and found him living at or near Banesville, Kansas. I recorded some family names on a visit to the Leon Cemetery Dec. 23, 2001. FORWARD; Elmira E. W/O E. Forward d. June 22, 1870, 19y - 7mo. - 1 ds. ELLA E. Dau. of E. + E. E. Forward d. Sept. 5, 1870, Lived 2mo. 13 ds. If I have my math correct, Ella E. was born on her mother's death date. I'm sorry to say that this is about all I had in my note file on this side of the family, but that isn't to say that I didn't do a little searching as it really took my interest, as I have other Foy's etc. in my file.
I did some internet searching. 1. Centerville, Allegany Co., N.Y. "William Foy and Ruth Morrill were the first to marry at Centerville. 2. (In reference to Wm. Foy b. N.H. per census) http://www.morrillonline.com/html/MorrillSargent-1754-1834.html Ruth Morrill --- Married ca. 1811 to William Foy. William Foy was b. in N.H., ca. 1788; d. in Prairie City, Ill., 16 January 1869. I don't have any idea of how far you have tracked the Morrill side of this marriage, but in case you haven't be prepared for some 6 generations in the above URL. 3. Genealogy Library dot com: Morrill Kindred in America Vol II Author: Annie Morrill Smith Call # R9292.M874s v.2 An Account of the descendants of Abraham Morrill of Salisbury, Massachusetts, 1632-62, through his three sons, Mr. Isaac, Capt. Jacob and Lieut. Moses Morrill, to 1931. (Down load pages # 61 & 62) Ruth Morrill; daughter of Sargent Morrill - Rev. War, moved to Canterbury, N.H. in 1771 "vi. Ruth, b. 1790, d. Sept. 21, 1864 Leon, Ill., m. William Foy, had 10 children." Above this list (7 children) for Sargent is the authors mention of source. "According to the records sent by Mary L. Young, daughter of Laura (7) Morrill, Sargent and Ruth (Hoyt) Morrill had 7 children". On going here..... Down load page 169. "358 Laura (7) Dau. of Masten(6), Sargent(5) etc.... b. Oct. 4, 1821, Olean, New York, d. March 12, 1877, Geneseo, Illinois, buried in Sharon, Illinois, m. Walter Young, Dec. 30, 1858, Leon, Illinois, b. Dec. 29, 1816, near Cazenovia, New York, d. April 24, 1884, Geneseo, Ill. was a farmer. Children: Lizzie Luella Young, b. Nov. 5, 1859, near Spring Hill, Whiteside Co., Ill. lives at Prophetstown. In an assuming thought. The Library in Geneseo has a ton of their old newspapers on Mico-film. I'm sorry to say that the old Prophetstown newspapers were the victim of extensive water damage in a flooded basement. I understand that they are presently in the Prophetstown Library, and are yet to be carefully opened and researched. Some may be a total loss, but I often think of how much information is laying there. I have written a lot more than directly related to your subject, but someone from this area, just may be able to pick up on some of the material presented. Especially the mention of the Young family material. They just might know about the ten children. Enough said, and Happy Hunting: JackP
