I am trying to find out "Who is Abe West"? The newspaper clipping from the West family bible says Abe died Dec. 31, 1886 and is buried beside his wife. Abram West who is listd in the Tampico Cemetery also died Dec.31 but is listed as died in 1856. Also how could he be buried by his wife (which the closest date is Anne) when she didn't die until 2-23-1887???

Gazette has the following: West, Abram Mrs. obituary 28 Feb 1884;wStandard;8;1
1870 Tampico Census: West, Abram, age 65, farmer, b. Conn. West, Anna, age 47, keeping house, b. Canada West, Mary, age 18, at home, b. NY
1880 United States Federal Census about Abram West Name: Abram West Home in 1880: Tampico, Whiteside, Illinois Age: 73 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1807 Birthplace: New York Relation to Head of Household: Self (Head) Spouse's Name: Anna West Father's birthplace: New York Mother's birthplace: New York Neighbors: View others on page Occupation: Retired Farmer Marital Status: Married Race: White Gender: Male Household Members: Name Age Abram West 73 Anna West 56
Obviously, he is still around for the 1880 census. It may be a typo. I have the original records and will double check them.
I'll check it out further for you.

Connie, I was at Historical yesterday and looked through the 1886 Tornado. It is in very fragile condition. I could not find an obit. I'll check more when I get over there again, probably this weekend. I have some other resources to check.

I did some searching of the various Tampico Tornado newspapers I've transcribed and found this one article from 1886 through 1900:
February 29, 1896 Frank BALDWIN and his sister Miss Jennie BALDWIN have bought the Abe WEST farm. It contains 80 acres. Miss Jennie has the north forty and Frank the south forty.

Thanks Les!, I know the 1856 date cannot be right, so this article sort of confirms the dod is 1886. Thanks! Denise

I have Lovinia West married to R.H. McKenzie in my Lyon family tree. One of Lovinia's brothers was DeWitt West, whose son, Frank E., married Lottie B. Lyon. Lottie and my grandmother were sisters.
I have Lovinia and Dewitt's parents as Isaac West and Charlotte (no surname) from New York.
DeWitt West married Anna Verbeck, she also from New York. Of the 3 children I know about, they were all probably born in Tampico; Frank E., Ethel, and Darlene.
If any of this seems wrong, please let me know, Connie. Sandi Hartnell

THis all looks correct as far as I know. Charolettes maiden name was Stocking. She had a brother, Ransler, who lived in Prophetstown and Morrison and he had a son, Lafayette, who was an attorney in Morrison. I am trying to figure out how Abe West is related and why he is in the family bible. I have several pictures of who my grandmother identified as Aunt Lottie B. Would you recognize her?

Connie, I wouldn't recognize Lottie B. West unless she looks a lot like her sisters (twins) Mina and Minerva. Their photos are in the Lyon Photo Album. I would appreciate receiving a scanned image if you can do that. Send to hartnellsl (at) comcast (dot) net Sandi Hartnell
