Hi, My mother & I have been working on the family tree and have just been lucky enough to come into possession of a slew of old family photos, most of which are unfortunately not marked. We have figured out whom many of them are but there are a few we can only guess about based on family resemblence.
I do have a professional photograph of a young man (maybe in his early 20's) that we think may be related to James Monroe Newell/Elizabeth "Betsy Ann" (Johnston) Newell. Floyd E. Howlett would have been their grandson. This photo however, was taken in Springfield Ohio. James & Betsy did come from Ohio & Floyd was a traveling salesman (so I have read) so perhaps this is not impossible.
If anyone thinks they might be able to identify this photo I will send them a scan of it.. or a scan of a few other photos we suspect (or know) are in the Newell family. We are decended through James & Betsy's oldest son, Jerome Dittimus Newell and his son, James Earl Newell.

Hi Dawn I am descended from Simon Jester Newell, a brother to Jerome Dittimus Newell. James and Betsy (Johnston)Newell came from Cayahoga Co Ohio, I believe they were both born there. James died during the Civil War from pneumonia in Springfield IL. I have his Civil War record from NARA. Simon married Esther Ann Howlett in 1880.Would you please scan the picture to me? hilfikerfarms@bright.net

To susieq and Dawn. I know the Howlett's were cousins to my father, Lloyd Newell. I have a large box of pictures from my dad. Many were labled by him, fortunately. I just went through it looking for pictures from his mother's side of the family. I will go through it again for pictures of Howlett's and others. I saw a posting, I believe here, that mentioned Heidt and Glenn King. I have a picture right here next to the computer now of them. I will have to find where that posting was. It seems the Newell ancestry is pretty well documented all the way back to England in the 1600's at least. I wish I had known all of this while my dad was still alive. He would have enjoyed it. Here is my email, so if you get the time, I'd love to see what pictures you have. dianefitz@sbcglobal.net. Thanks.
