I am looking for any information about Bend School which was in Lyndon Township with Wanda Pearson as the teacher for many years. Bend School is now a residence. Mrs. Pearson lived in Tampico. Her husband was Kennneth Pearson. Any information or possible leads to information would be greatly appreciated. Judith fair

Hi Judith, I see the school on my 1932 map. It shows it located in Hume Twp, just east of Lyndon Twp. Let me check the archives and see if we have anything.

I can't say if it was the same family or not, but Dick Pearson was a student at Tampico Grade School about 1950. His mother was a teacher in a country school, so that is a possible lead.

After much research I have found out that Bend School in Lyndon Township was attended by George A. Allen in 1871 so it was established then. I wonder what year it was built???? The original schoolhouse was closed at the end of 1916 and the new school was built a bit west from the original on the north side of the same road- route 2- Lyndon Road. I also wonder when this was closed???- sometime after 1960 when it was bought and made into a residence. Does anyone have any additional information for me or know of any contacts? Thanks, Judith Fair

Hello again Judith, I am assuming that you have made contact with Janet Goodell from the P-town Historical Society? She also knows the contact for the Lyndon Historical Society, who may also be able to help. I'll see if I can find anything else on this end.
Marylin Anderdson from the Sterling Pub. Library & Whiteside Genealogy Soc. could probably also help you out. I have been in contact Janet and Marilyn and am writing to Lyndon Historical Society. I found out that Bend was attended in 1871 and was closed in 1916 after which the new school was opened. I do not yet know the exact opening and closing dates of Bend School. I am now researching the ownership of the family farm which is directly across from the original school. I am trying to find land plats for this location. I have 1871, 1898, and 1912. Does anyone know where I can find more??????

Are you trying to trace the property owners through the years? That information is at the assessors office. I don't know how that works "long distance." Here are some numbers for you: Whiteside County Township Assessors Ted Kuhnen Lyndon Township (815) 537-2523

Thanks for the leads on tracing property owners. Will follow through with those leads. Will be coming down to the area soon so will be able to get some copies made if I find out where the information is located. Judith Fair

That's great - if you are coming to the area during a week day, you can just go to the court house in Morrison. You will be able to follow the sale transactions on the property. You can get copies of the sales - I think they charge $1 per page.
We did that on our house and it was really fun. At one time, it looked like it was part of a "poker game." Several transactions in one day!
See our Whiteside County Contacts section in the TABLE OF CONTENTS for other resources and address for court house, etc. ---------- Denise Family History Coordinator Tampico Area Historical Society
