I received the following from Dale Rose and thought I would share it. If you have a memory of Mrs. B, as she was known in the Historical Society, please post it. We recently lost her, but she will remain a part of so many lives forever.
Dale wrote:
I was not surprised to see that Mrs. Bollenbach had died, but saddened none the less. I imagine that there are hundreds of former students who could tell stories of "Our Miss Grubb."
Now I didn't see this one, but friends swore that it was true. While passing by Gube's pool hall, Mrs. Bollenbach noticed a student in there. She went in and marched the poor unfortunate right out the door.
This one I did, because it happened to me. I was new in school and new students were bound to run afoul of "THE RULES." Not knowing any better, I filled my fountain pen from the inkwell. One of the girls (I remember who, but I won't name her) raised her hand and tattled. Mrs. Bollenbach raked me over but good. Needless to say, I just dipped my pen from that time on, unless of course, no one was looking.

Hi Dale - Great story about Miss Grugg. I heard the same story many times. Everyone had a great deal of respect for her but when we were little, I think we thought it was fear. I talked to her in the nursing home last year and she hadn't changed a bit. Still teaching. She lived next door to my grandparent and we didn't dare step in her yard unless we were invited. Great picture of your class.
