Barb has written us: I've had a couple breakthroughs with the Asa Emmons family the majority of who lived in Whiteside County. A distant cousin sent me notes from Emmons Family Bible belonging to Harriet Rebecca (Walling) Emmons that contained the siblings names and parents of Asa. I asked him to send me the photocopied page, unfortunately he has ignored my request. The names of Asa's siblings are; Lehman L., Issac Bird, Samuel, Harrit, Lucretia, Herman, Mary Ann, Adrew B, and Emily E. Asa's parents are; Lehman (or I have found spelling as Lyman) and Ursula Beach Emmons.
I found an article which lists Lehaman's fathers name as Issac when I was searching for one of Asa's siblings; "Isaac Hilliard Sterling, son of Isaac and Urena (Johnson) Sterling came with his father Isaac from Cornwall, Litchfield Co., CT in 1810 when about 11 years old. He learned the carpenter's trade of Jeremiah Spencer, serving an apprenticeship. He died Oct. 15, 1882, aged 83 years, 4 mo & 19 days. Married Harried Emmons, daughter of Lemon Emmons and granddaughter of Isaac Emmons. She died Jan 15, 1888, aged 84 years, 3 mo & 29 days. Ten children-seven sons and three daughters." - Source: Sterling Bio http://potterwashburnreunion.org/sterling.htm So, I'm not sure whether Lehman's fathers name is Herman or Issac.
He did send me The Biographical Record of Whiteside County published in 1900, on pages 389 and 390 gives Lehmans fathers name as Herman, his marriage to Ursula Beach, and place of death as PA.
I'm also sending you some pictures of Asa and his family.
