I want your Illinois Highway History! Gathering info on U.S. & State highways (non-interstate) for future book project! Calling all current/former owners of gas stations, motels, restaurants, etc.; or employees of such; or anyone who vacationed on or knows about IL 2-lane highways; or just reg'lar people! Here's an article from the Tampico Tornado newspaper that I transcribed earlier - Les Niemi

September 9, 1920
Mr. and Mrs. George ISHERWOOD motored to Dixon Monday and saw the wind up of the celebration of the opening of the new concrete highway between Sterling and Dixon. The celebration was held at Prairieville and there were hundreds of autos decorated with flags from both Sterling and Dixon. Mr. and Mrs. ISHERWOOD met over 300 cars coming from the celebration whose occupants were singing "smooth sailing" on the fine new road.
