The Tampico Area Historical Society encompasses parts of Whiteside County and Bureau County in Illinois. Focus is on Tampico, Hume Twp., Hahnaman/Deer Grove, & Prophetstown in Whiteside County & Yorktown & Thomas in Bureau County.

Does anyone have information on the G.A.R. post in Tampico. My ancestor Solomon "Saul" France has a G.A.R. marker at his gravesite in the Tampico Cemetery and am trying to find which post he belonged to. I believe he served in the 147th Ill US Infantry however he is listed as Solomon Frank.

Steadman Post No. 491 Do a site search (Home Page) in quotes to find various members and info on it. Read through the history of Tampico - see TABLE OF CONTENTS - Whiteside > Tampico History. Les Niemi has submitted a Family Gen Chart on Solomon - browse through there also. I'll see what else I can find.
