I received the following queries from the Thompsons:
Questions:
1. What is Haney E. Cain's middle name? I have seen it listed as Eli somewhere and I think in his obituary it is Egbert. Do you know which is correct?
2. James Egbert Cain's birthdate, or any other information on him?
3. In George Knox's obituary, it says "daughter Mrs. Jonnie Steadman". Since his daughter's name was Jennie, should this
say Mrs. Jennie Steadman? Or was her husband's name Jonnie, making the statement correct?
4. In W.A. Hein's Obit it says " helping shred corn last week at Knox's"............ Was that at George Knox's, do you know?
5. Do you know if there are any photos of Rachel & Eli Cain?

Observations:
Somewhere along the line - Franklin H. Knox became Frank Knox as his headstone indicates. Early census records show his name was Franklin H. Would be interesting to know what the H. stood for! It might provide another clue??

I found a 1920 Census record for Mason Hein, son-in-law to head of house. Household members: Freeman FOST, 54; Nellie, FOST, 51; Maude Hein, 23; Mason Hein, 25. Since Les has told me that their last name is FOY, anyone would have a heck of time finding information on them, wouldn't they? Proper last names are very helpful.

I was checking out the Tampico website just before I started this and discovered the Marriages & Engagements section has the marriage of Rachel Guy & Anderson Knox on it submitted by John Chapman. I have just slightly different information on where the information is found (book & page). Another cousin had sent us the same info as is on the Kosciusko County website.
I have gone into the Kosciusko County website, online, which has this information:
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY MARRIAGES INDEX - 1850- 1874
Rachel GUY married Anderson KNOX - 29 April, 1855 Book 3: Page 427
Also:
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY MARRIAGES INDEX - 1850-1874
KNOX, Rachel married CAIN, Elias C. - 26 February, 1866 Book C: Page 305
Therefore, I don't know if the person who submitted the information/sources that John Chapman quoted has the wrong
information or if the Kosciusko County website could be inaccurate? Another discrepancy!!

Further information on Anderson KNOX. He was born 30 April, 1828. He died 08 Jan, 1864 in Kosciusko Co, IN. Age 35 years.
I thought I had his place of burial here, too, but don't find it at the moment. I'll check to see if I do have it and send it along if I do have it. (Elsa later added: Leesburg Cemetery, Plain Twp, Kosciusko Co, IN.)

Any help or insights will be most appreciated. Thank you.

A.
To my knowledge, Haney's middle name is Egbert. I don't know where you saw it listed as Eli. There is also an Eli Cain.
Q.
2. James Egbert Cain's birthdate, or any other information on him?
A.
James E. Cain is listed on the TMC index, including his birthdate: CAIN James Egbert April 17, 1911-April 16, 1976
Q.
3. In George Knox's obituary, it says "daughter Mrs. Jonnie Steadman". Since his daughter's name was Jennie, should this
say Mrs. Jennie Steadman? Or was her husband's name Jonnie, making the statement correct?
A.
There is a photo copy of the obit which appears to read "Jennie" - therefore making it a typo on my part. It has been corrected.
Q.
4. In W.A. Hein's Obit it says " helping shred corn last week at Knox's"............ Was that at George Knox's, do you know?
A.
No clue - maybe someone else would know this??????
Q.
5. Do you know if there are any photos of Rachel & Eli Cain?
A.
I have posted all of the family photos to the site. There are still hundreds of photos at the historical society that need to be sorted and identified. As I find them, I post them in the individual family albums. See our TABLE OF CONTENTS > Photo Albums > Index to Family Albums. Perhaps there are family members out there that could contribute to this. (smile)

Unfortunately our Funeral Logs do not start until the latter part of 1896. Data entry was minimal before 1919. Later years provided more details. I am pretty sure I already looked for an obit for James for someone and said we are missing the March issue where the obit would be found. I will have to check the Sterling Library and see if they have mention of it in the Gazette. It is on my "To Do" list. I will also double check and see if we have that Tornado issue for his obit again. If not, I will make note on the TMC index.

Elsa, I am not sure what the discrepancy is. Both of her marriages are listed, one in 1855 to A. Knox and the other to E. Cain in 1866. (See the TMC index and also Rachel's obit). John Chapman wrote:1855 Guy - Knox
Submitted by John Chapman

Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
about Rachel Guy

Also - The TMC Index shows the following:
CAIN Rachel Guy 2/7/1835-June 10 1906 71 G Guy Anderson Knox 1855 Eli Cain 1866 Dropsy Obit

I apologize, I don't think I am understanding the question. Could you please clarify for me. Thanks.
