Hi Darlene, You may have seen this 1880 census, but will post just in case: 1880 United States Federal Census 1880 United States Federal Census Name: Pierce Buckingham Home in 1880: Precinct 8, Red River, Texas Age: 12 Estimated birth year: abt 1868 Birthplace: Illinois Relation to head-of-household: Something other than a direct relationship (Other) Father's birthplace: Illinois Mother's birthplace: Illinois Neighbors: View others on page Occupation: At Home Marital Status: Single Race: White Gender: Male Household Members: Name Age Pedrow Mace 30 Ann Mace 30 Pierce Buckingham 12 James Washington 20
If this is your Pierce, he wasn't in our area for very long.
I am not finding many Buckingham families in our immediate area. If you do a site search on our site, you find a few postings regarding the family name. Here is a msg regarding the surname BUCKINGHAM, posted on another thread, and it gives an email address: Years ago in Penrose, which is located at the corner of Freeport Road and Penrose Road, north of Sterling, there was a grocery store on the corner. It has been run or owned by some of my relatives but, I don't know their full names, or what years they were in business there. One is a Buckingham and I think the other is a Schaefer( possibly related to the Sivits family or Deets family) Buckingham was related to the Schultz's.I'm not sure of the years they were there unfortunately. That's why I was hoping someone out there would recall who ran the store in the past. I have new information about the store in Penrose. Between 1870 and 1890 it was a meat market run by Andrew James Buckingham ,who was married to my great Aunt Laura(Shultz)Buckingham. I am looking for any information on this family. I know their relatives are still in the area so if you know them e-mail me at katlojoe2003@yahoo.com thanks
Perhaps this will be of some help. ---------- Denise Family History Coordinator Tampico Area Historical Society
