Does anyone have info on Art and Marge's tavern in Lyndon? Ran by Arthur and Marjorie Schreiner Egert until the '80's? I think it's torn down now.

What would you like to know. My wife and I were regulars at Art and Marge's Tavern. We camped next to them at Larry's Ponderosa up river from Lyndon. I was a pallbearer at Art's funeral. We were at the wake that Marge had at the tavern with all of their friends in honor of Art's memory and it was by invite only. Art passed away the day after his and Marge's 65th wedding Anniversary. His only wish he had was to made it to that date. We all had a very good time honoring them both on that date. They both enjoyed themselves so much. We were at the Prophetstown Country Club and Art and Marge came to the door riding in a stretch Limo and went home the same way.
The Egert Family reunion is held every year and it was held on the 12th of August at the Hooppole Park this year.
Marge has one sister still alive, and I know many of Art's relatives.
How may I help you?

Was Art a relative of Richard D. EGERT who, in 1953, passed away and is buried in the Tampico cemetery?
Thanks, Les

Well, drec, my grandparents, Marion and Grace Egert, were frequent visitors, too. Uncle Art and Aunt Marge were my mother's(Beverly Walters) god parents. I spent many a summer's day as a child there. I'm making an album for my aunt Annette with pics of relatives. She doesn't seem to have any for some reason. Uncle Art gave my dad Bucky, the nickname of Speedy! I guess the first time Dad went to a family thing, he was in and out so quickly, earned him the moniker. I adored them, so unlike the other side of my family. Love to hear the stories!
I didn't know there was still an Egert reunion! We've been having a small one, just the brothers/sisters of Uncle Art and Grampa Marion. I was railroaded into being in charge and have been really lax about getting it together.
Great to hear from you!

LesN,
I read your question above about any relationship between Richard D. (Dean) Egert, and Arthur and Marge Egert.
I only have a slight Egert connection in the family, and I'm not any expert on the family, so for those that are, please correct me.
I believe at this time, Art Egert (of Lyndon) was an Uncle of the Tampico Richard D. Egert. Richard D. Egert's father was Ransom A. Egert, brother of Arthur H. Egert. They were sons of Barney and Mary Egert of Loraine Twp., Henry County.

Barnhart and Mary Yackley Egert of Loraine Twp, Henry Co., were the parents of four sons, Bernard John, Raymond Albert, Marion Sylvester, and Arthur Hubert.
Ransom Dudley Egert was the son of Joseph Robert and Iona L Richter Egert. They had 5 sons, Ransom Dudley, Charles Robert, Harold Clifford, Arvid Vincent, and Elvin Earl.
Richard D Egert was the son of Ransom D & Nora Belle McComb Egert of Tampico. Brother to Cecil, Lowell, & Audrey.
Barnhart and Joseph Egert were brothers, sons of Barnhart and Marie Anne Clementz Egert.
Barnhart was the son of Michael & Rachael Mutz Egert who immigrated from Alsace about 1851 to Naperville. Migrated to Yorktown and Loraine Twp about 1854.

Dear Kathy,
In an effort to help Les out with his question, I'll admit that I did not have all the information at hand, so I used some census records in Loraine Township. Even though you spelled out sons in families of the Egert's, I still have a question or two.
I printed off the 1910 census (a search on Barney Egert) Loraine Twp. Joe and Iona's family are listed and Barney and Mary's family are on the same page.
Joe and Iona's son Ransom is age 12.
Moving two doors down, Barney and Mary's fifth child is son, Ransom A., also age 12. Ransom A., has a younger brother named Arthur H., age 2.
What do we have that can explain the difference between Ransom Dudley Egert, son of Joe and Iona Egert, and Ransom A. Egert, son of Barnhart (Barney) and Mary Egert?

Well, I'm thinking the census taking mistakingly wrote Ransom for Raymond Albert Egert. Uncle Ray was born 22 Jan 1898, he contracted measles in 1899 as a baby and lost his hearing. Ransom Egert lived around the corner from Barney and Mary with his parents. Barney and Joe Egert were brothers. Both homes are still standing.

Dear Kathy,
Thanks for the correction on Ramsom Egert. If you noticed I left the correction gate wide open, as I knew I was offering some very lightly researched data. The 1910 census with Ramsom A. Egert is undoubted Raymond A.
LesN, if you have been keeping tack here, you should have the answer to your question.

Dear Kathy,
I see you got plenty of help without me, but I need to correct you on Marge's maiden name. Her name was Schryver instead of Schreiner. I also wanted others to know that Art had 5 sisters along with his 3 brothers. His sisters were Emma Grose, Ella Park, Leona Sommers, Louise Wirth, and Florence Farrell.
As far as old family pictures are concerned, you might give Dick and Marge Sommers a call at 815-537-2818 in Prophetstown, if they don't have them they might get you them that do.
After your first letter we did take the time to go to the cemetary and visited Art and Marge's graves, something we talked about and hadn't taken the time to do. Thank you.
