Do you know of a nice message board like this one for Whiteside County? I've learned so much from this one already, and since my family lived right on the borders of both counties, being able to ask questions there would really be nice also. I did a search for some, but nothing came up like this one. Any suggestions? Bette

Ah, thank you Bette. I agree, this is the BEST website around (SMILE), thanks to all of these great folks that participate. However, the Rootsweb/Ancestry Whiteside message board is very good - reaches a broader audiance and incorporates a larger area. It is monitored regularly by some of the same folks that respond on our boards. You may want to sign up for their mailing list - but in digest mode (you will get one email notice per day as opposed to the other way where you get an email for each posting). I always post our "What's New" at the beginning of each month on that board. I DON'T recommend GENEALOGY.com boards, at least for Whiteside County.

Also, Christine Walters' Whiteside website on GenealogyTrails is also excellent. She and I have developed a wonderful working relationship (technically, we should be competitors). We both have the same goals - to get as much FREE geneological information out to the public as possible. We share info with each other and try not to duplicate information if we can help it. She is awesome. However, there is no message board on her site, she does not live the area anymore. She also cannot do research, but I think offers a list of volunteers that will. Hers is my favorite site - AFTER ours (giggle)!
It never hurts to pop on the individual county sites from time to time. You never know what you will find. I am just saying, if you have limited time to research, if you can't find it here, you will probably find it on Chris's site! You will find links to her website all through this one.

Hope this is helpful. I hope others will jump in if they have other suggestions for Bette on good Whiteside sites.

Yes, I agree that Christine is nice to work with. She posted some obits and family pics for me just last weekend.
And I wondered...does your place have old plat books of Loraine township? I only could find one old one at the Geneseo Library.

I only have one plat map for Henry County and unfortunately there is no year noted on it. Loraine Twp., Henry County. Click on photo to open album. Click onthe magnifying glass in upper right corner. Once enlarged, you can pan the map.

Oh thank you Denise! He's listed on that plat book, and now I know right where the farm was. I kind of know the person who lived there, so she will be my next call.
