Hey! The Chicago Trib wants to do an article on Love Center and has asked for info on it. I know it was a stop for the HY&T, but that's it. Can anyone tell me more about it? Thanks

Thanks to all who have emailed me. I have passed the info on to Steve from the Chicago Trib. Not sure if it's what he was looking for, but hope he give it a "go." He wanted to do a story on a "town" named Love for Valentine's Day. We'll see. HERE ARE SOME OF THE GREAT RESPONSES WE RECEIVED: Denise, I think love station is where Bob Cassens' parents lived on route 92. He would probably know as much as anyone. Also, the HY& T tape has mention of that. I grew up 2 houses down from Bob, but it was all gone by the time we moved in(I was in 3rd grade) to that area. Albert Forward was one of Fred's relatives and he made mention of that station (I think) on the tape. My tape is at my brother's, but will try to get it. Thanks, Betty
Denise...that is the place formerly known as Cassens...Rose Martin lives there now and is very proud of it. She has a number of very nice photos that need to be copied and improved. ....... This is the location 4 miles south and one mile west of Tampico...Bob Cassens can give you the history.....Richard
I thought it was in Princeton and a stopping point for the underground rail road, but I maybe wrong? Let me know what you find out! Thanks, Terry
Loves Center was a stop between Tampico and Yorktown for the HY&T. If you come south of Tampico, to hwy 92, turn right and travel about 1/2 mile, you will be at Loves Center. the current buildings were built by the Casens family, and Mr. Casens spoke about them at the Cemetary walk a year ago October.....remember him? he was a HOOT! A couple live there now...I only know their first names...Rosie and Dave.... We just got a pot bellied pig from them... She is real nice... I did notice some WONDERFUL black and white prints of the HY&T and Casens gas station in the window of their shop.... YOU would just love those photos...old cars and vintage gas pumps and THE TRAIN!...............April
DENISE, IT WAS CALLED LOVE STATION, I BELIEVE. BOB CASSENS USE TO LIVE THERE. IF YOU COME SOUTH OF TAMPICO AND TURN RIGHT ON 92, GO I MILE, IT IS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE ROAD. I DO NOT KNOW THE NAME OF THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE THERE, BUT HE TEARS OLD TRAILERS APART. IT USE TO BE KNOWN AS CASSENS HYDRAULIC. BOB
Denise - Roy says to call Bob Cassens. He lived at Loves Center. It was were Cassens Hydraulic was located there on Rt 92. It would be on the northwest corner of 300 E and Route 92. There is a house and a building where the hydraulic business was located still there. Mary Lou __________________________________

Well, the Trib isn't going to run a story on our Love Center. Here is his response: Hi Denise, Thanks for all your help! Unfortunately, it’s something we can’t really write about. Please keep my email and cell phone, though, and let me know if there’s ever anything you think is interesting.
And actually, I’m working on a story about “ghost towners” people who travel to different ghost towns to take pictures and research the history. Do you know anyone who does that or are there any popular sites to visit in the county?
Thanks again,
Steve sschmadeke@Tribune.com 312-731-8858.

Terry- The Underground Railroad site in Princeton is the Lovejoy House. It's been a while, but it's on the east side of town, on Rt 6. Dad took me there when I was little, right after the Civil War! OK, we're not that old! -Andy
