Has anyone ever heard of a town or area called Keanne? I just got some information about an acestor, Izri (Ezra) Hillyer/Hellyer. I've never seen that name anywhere, any ideas?

Dear Katminder,

I read your post the first day, and chased the name in census records. The name (from Germany) was found in Geneseo, Henry County. He was listed as a farmer. Take a hunch and do a little work on Kewanee, Henry County. My spelling is so bad that it became pretty easy to think of Keanne as Kewanee.

The Teach families of Tampico were out of Germany 1740's, but the family that came was Dietz. Johann Peter Dietz, was born about 1723 in Rieschweiler, Zweibrucken, Germany. Confirmation: April 4, 1738, Evangelical Reformed Church in Rieschweiler. He arrived in Philadelphia, PA., on the Billender Thistle, November 1738, age 14, with his family. The rest of the family continued in PA., with the name Dietz, but Peter (Petter) had his name on the ship records as Teak, and his papers for the U.S. became Teach in Philadelphia. Has to be him as he was the only 14 year old on the boat. So we became the Teach family from Petter. As the family spoke German, other spellings of the name became Ditch, as they are in PA census records. It's the way they pronounced Teach. His parents were Johann Ulrich Dietz, and Elisabetha Weinmann. (second wife)

Jack,
That's funny that you said that about Kewanee. That honestly was my first reaction when I read Keanne as well!

Mine, too! But I thought maybe these new relatives of mine knew something I didn't!

Thanks everyone!
